– Cashmere

Cashmere is a natural wool fiber obtained from the hair of the cashmere goat. The spiral structure of cashmere provides cozy warmth and helps to achieve thermal balance by regulating body temperature. This wool fiber is extremely soft and delicate, but at the same time, it is very strong and quite elastic.

Colors

Cashmere exists naturally in only three colors: white, gray, and brown, but it can be dyed in any color.

Light, soft and smooth

Cashmere is a light fiber, with a soft and smooth texture. And it can be worn all year round. It is warm in winter, yet the structure of the fiber allows it to be worn comfortably in summer as well. The fiber is extremely insulating, elastic, and resistant. The fiber, known as pashm or pashmina in some parts of Asia, became known for its use in shawls and other handmade items. However, its origin began in the Himalayan highlands of China and Mongolia.

Production Process

The hair of the cashmere goat acquires its fundamental properties during the winter period and frost, due to low temperatures that can reach as low as -40°C. At this time of the year, the undercoat becomes soft and dense so that in the spring and summer months it is ready to be combed through a long process of manual handling. After this manual process, the cashmere is ready for the spinning process, to be woven later.

Our Cashmere

The cashmere purchased by António Salgado respects the life cycle and the health of the animals, strictly following the legislation regarding the protection of the environment and animals. Furthermore, there is a control on the prohibition against child labor so that the production of the yarn is made within all environmental, social, and ethical standards.
