– Pineapple Fiber

Pineapple leaf fibers or PALF (Pineapple Leaf Fiber) are examples of materials that can be extracted from pineapple leaves.

Pineapple Fiber

Strength and insulation

These fibers have opened the door to new applications, beyond the traditional ones, in the areas of clothing and handicrafts, then to applications in composite materials, thus obtaining products with low density, low coefficient of thermal expansion, resistance to fatigue, and corrosion, with excellent strength properties and sound insulation properties.

Less energy

In addition, from the environmental point of view, they are important because they are biodegradable and have a production process that uses little energy.

Production Process

The extraction of pineapple fiber comes from the harvesting of the outer leaves and the simple, manual stripping process, that is, ripping, where the outer layers of the leaf are removed. After this process, the fibers are immersed in water so that the microorganisms break down all the plant structures that are next to the fiber. After this phase, the fibers are washed, dried in the sun, and finally spun to be woven.
