Through several years of intensive research, Smart Fiber AG has succeeded in developing a fiber made from renewable resources, called SeaCell™ LT.

Sustainable raw materials

SeaCell™

Production Process

SeaCell™ LT is a fiber produced from two sustainable raw materials: wood and seaweed. Its production process is the same as Lyocell fiber, and its production methods do not use much energy or resources, making the fiber biodegradable.

The process begins with the selective and gentle harvesting of seaweed, and is considered sustainable in that only that part of the seaweed that can be regenerated is harvested. The algae are not treated, so all of their ecological value is retained.

This type of production is innovative, economical, and environmentally friendly, and takes place in a closed circuit, with no chemicals released as waste.

Seaweed

In essence, SeaCell™ is seaweed containing cellulose fiber, with added silver. Seaweed is a natural and pure raw material, rich in trace minerals, amino acids, and vitamins, with anti-inflammatory properties. Since seaweed is not treated, it contains an activating factor that keeps the skin fresh, and the high level of antioxidants creates a kind of immune system capable of neutralizing the free radicals that attack the skin and favor aging and the appearance of atopic diseases.

Once woven, this fiber is light, soft, flexible, breathable, and has a silky and smooth feel. The fiber is suitable for a wide range of applications and blends easily with any other fiber.
